Bye Bye Winnipegger Blues: Tuesday, April 15th

As a well spent day brings happy sleep, so life well used brings happy death. -Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519)

P, I think we could front a small band call The Flummoxed. Intonation would be slightly off, instruments in disrepair, tunes barely recognizable. No player can put his or her foot down...Impressive ride stats back to back but disappointing anecdotes: no small dogs or children.

Nice to hear Dusty leaves on a five hearts strut. Could join you to visit Norbal at about noon. I am off the court at 11:15. Could ride down Ontario and meet you at the bottom near the dragon boat trailers. If you want to go earlier please do. W

Hi Grateful Unread!

Love the spin-offs which emanate from The Burning Ground Syndrome. Once we figure out how to franchise all of these start ups we'll be laughing all the way to the bank. Goodbye porch cleaner, hello $3,000 malts, and those are the cheap ones!

Just back from the airport and The Traveling Durston Road Show was in full swing. Started with Clarisse asking Dusty where his Warfarin pill was and when he said he'd already taken it she went into high lecture/haranguing mode: "Patti, [Cora Lee's nurse practitioner sister], told you to take it at the same time every day otherwise it throws off your body's response to drug, etc., etc. I hope you get a nosebleed and stain the jacket which I spent all day, yesterday, washing , as you always wear your good clothes when you are painting!" In his defense he offered: "I'm only trying to get on Winnipeg time!"

["Democritus, [was] the fifth-century philosopher and atomist renowned as antiquity's most inveterate laugher. ... In the philosopher's home city, his compatriots had become concerned at the way he laughed at everything he came across (from funerals to political success) and concluded that he must be mad. So they summoned the most famous doctor in the world [Hippocrates] to cure him. When Hippocrates arrived, however, he soon discovered that Democritus was saner than his fellow citizens. For he alone had recognised the absurdity of human existence, and was therefore entirely justified in laughing at it. ..." I dropped them and luggage off at Departures and said goodbye, to circle while Coriandre took them inside to shepherd them through check-in. On second time around, Cora Lee was outside, waving, so I picked her up. Not much of a line-up and once they were through that they were directed to baggage drop-off. Dusty proceeded right to the head of that line, in spite of shouts from Air Canada rep and Clara's "Dustee! Dustee!" He remained completely oblivious and returned to a crimson-faced Coramandel, ducking the angry looks of the others in line! At Security Clara wanted to use Nexus line. Guess she figured if Dusty could jump the queue she could as well! Gotta love those Elders! [See from Folk Fest website that we are no longer "Seniors"! Does this mean that I can now ride on Musqueam without being accosted?] Anyway, they had an hour to get to Departure Gate where they could eat their egg-salad sandwiches, made last night and wrapped in tin foil, set atop one of their bags, packed days before, so they wouldn't forget them, their sandwiches that is. I asked then if they wanted to spend night at airport to be sure they wouldn't miss flight!!

Still, they will be missed , obviously. Will take Coriandre a few days of decompression to do so as it is always more difficult for the offspring. I simply enjoy the reality show/soap opera. Who needs the Young and the Rest of Us when we have Rosie-the-Riveter and Coat-Hanger play bridge against each other!

I'm more than happy to meet you at The Dragon's Den, (loads of small children/yappy mutt potential there), so let me know time: High Noon? Must away as I have two calls waiting. One from Air Canada Customer Service, the other from Homeland Security. Apparently Dusty thought they were sitting "up-front" somewhere so he sat down next to the pilot and started to make small talk. Even offered him part of his sandwich while he started to talk about his time in the navy! Cheers, Gong Show Conduttore!

P, Thanks for taking me over to see the new Norbal. Really pleased with my purchase even though I needed it like a...Let me know if I need to send Cobby over to descramble the lock. He will laugh as he so often does when I am flummoxed, will close his eyes and damn if it isn't fixed. G
Hi Haughty Haute Couture Cyclist!

Thank you for facilitating ultra speedy response from Diana, (She may retract Cycling BC's support when she realizes you call her Diane!), as I can't think of a more appropriate endorsement and in under 7 nano seconds! Wish I could dipsy-doodle that quickly!

I only just managed to "jam" the lock back into its holder, (Only needed a few hefty swings from Dusty's sledgehammer!), so I would appreciate a lock de-flummoxing lesson after I fail tire repair course!

Any word on film tonight? We can swing by to collect you if you decide to join us. I'll bring lock and we can try to unscramble it while waiting for film to start! Cheers from The Hole in the Head Gang!

P, thanks for the offer for the movie. I am hunkered down here tonight. Enj

Hi Giorgio!

Sorry you can't join us. On another film matter, did you obtain tickets for Finding? Just curious.

Looking at the forecast, it seems to have deteriorated since last I looked. However, I'm prepared to ride at 7:00 am. Window until about 10:00ish. Interested? Let me know. Cheers, Film Buff in the Buff!

P, yes. I thought I already confirmed the ticket purchase with you. Monday, 4:30. Tickets in lock up. I may well be interested in an early morning ride if in fact the weather is favourable. Enjoy the film tonight. Sorry I cannot join you. W

Hi Giorgio!

Didn't get back from downtown until about 10:20 pm, after the remarkable panel/audience discussion. Film was absolutely riveting and more than disturbing if not downright alarming. Essentially American evangelical churches, (IHOP in particular, but not the Pancake franchise, the Prayer franchise, International House of Prayer!), and their armies of missionaries fueling rabid homophobia in Uganda. Too late, (especially if we plan to ride reasonably early domani), to go into more details but it is a film that everyone should see. Reel Causes is certainly doing incredible things in mounting such socially important screenings in conjunction with local organizations working for human rights, social justice, environmental concerns and the like. More later. Let's talk around 7:00 am.Cheers, Patrizzio!

Hi Ski and The Great Ronaldo!

Trust all goes well in the land of snow and ice! When do you fly to Vancouver? Come now as tulips are out in full force!!! All the best from Cora Lee. Cheers, Gong Show Patrizzio!

Hi Jarek!

We are busy with the Easter weekend ourselves so we were wondering if Wednesday, April 23rd, might be a convenient evening for you and Grazyna. If that date is not possible we'd need to wait until we are back from Mexico, after May 7th. Anyway, let us know and we'll plan accordingly. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Sort my friend , we have the funeral on this day. We'll make it may. Ps. Which part of Mexico you go? Regards to all Cheers Jarek

Hi Jarek!

Sorry to hear about the funeral but understand, of course. We will be going to a destination wedding in Playa del Carmen. Bride is the daughter of close friends and neighbours. Only for a week but should be fun as we've never been to that part of Mexico before. Will be in touch once back. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Hi Big Al! Enjoyed the cell phone cartoons but I have my own Funny Business here!  Cheers, Patrizzio!

Hi Big Al et al!

In case you misremember, we already have two defunct groups: The Stanchionettes and the Grateful Unread, the latest nom de plume for the NRBC. The Heartbleed Bug Terrecists have already bled the Motley Malt Cabinet dry so there ain't no beverage nor snacks available, especially since Clarisse and Dusty just took off for Polar Climes. Cheers, Il Conduttore!

Hi Mick!

Just a quick note to confirm bridge in the Designer Kitchen tomorrow at 7:00 pm. I have instructed others to wear aprons in honour of the new cooking/fine dining space! Cheers, Patrizzio The Guzzling Gourmet!

I will be there...what is the address? Thanks Ed

Hi The address is still on west 14th ave.  see you tomorrow at 7pm Mick

Hi Lads! Unless Mick had to sell the house, (between sending his message and this one), to pay for the kitchen renovations, he and Polly still live on West 14th, phone number, for Roadside Assistance, 604-732-MALT. Don't forget your aprons and sharp knives, former to soak up blood, latter to disembowel poor bidders! Cheers, The Butcher's Boy, (a great first mystery novel by Thomas Perry, by the way!)

Hi Patrick Baby now registered as flynn Nicholas brown!  He was 6lbs 13 oz.
Having party on good Friday for people who have nt seen him. Mike and I on day 13 of month's trial living together!  So far so good xx

Hi Penelope and Madcap, Co-habitors Extraordinaire!

Trust all goes well in the land of new grandchildren and domestic compromise! I assume Madcap has moved into your place, Penny. Will be thinking about everyone on Good Friday when you are having a party to celebrate the arrival of Flynn Nicholas. What will he be called?  All the best from Cora Lee to one and all. Cheers,  Patrizzio!
