Sun Run Parking Blues: Sunday, April 27th

All the world's a stage and most of us are desperately unrehearsed. -Sean O'Casey, playwright (1880-1964)

Dear Patrick

Thanks for the offer but I don't think we will get that dirty or wrinkled between Brisbane and Vancouver that we will any need washing or ironing facilities as soon as we arrive. Although if you have spare capacity I'm happy to bring some dirty stuff from home just because I can. Unfortunately, given I've retired now for 18 months I no longer take in washing and ironing, consequently I have deskilled in the finer points of well ironed creases and sharp edges.

Re the "Malt cabinet" I'm sure their is more then one way to open a cabinet in a time of need. Can you promise the "Malt" will not spoil the taste of an ice cold diet coke when mixed together ? All best and looking forward to our journey of discovery. Tony

Happy easterfrom thehimalayas

P, glad you enjoyed the jazz -- sounds great. Island ride was great in spite of the head winds both ways and the climbs -- some of which seemed higher than in the past. Funny how that happens. You would love the ride and the scenery -- reminiscent of Seymo-Demfo.

Carlos approved of the property that I have always favoured and of course had some great ideas for additional building. I play at 4PM today so will not ride today. The rest of the week looks promising. W

Hi Giorgio!

Terrific news indeed! Glad things turned out so well. When will deal close?

I know exactly what you meant with respect to damnable head winds, (if not the murderous climbs), as I seemed to be bucking them, more or less, for most of my own ride yesterday. After last night's debauchery I had to face a sink-full of pots and pans this morning but armed with a strong mug of java I soon made short work of them!

Wonder if you'll be able to ask J22HF about my laptop hard drive-ectomy and what I will need to buy. Some urgency, if he is interested, as only have little more than a couple of days, as you know. Thanks.

Must away now as I've to start putting out clothes for trip. Everything must be vetted by the Fashion Polizei before making it into suitcase! Let's talk about rides for Monday and Tuesday. Robo Man is interested in latter, as far as his last message indicated. Cheers, Patrizzio!

P, Thanks for reminder. Just sent Cobb a note. What year and model is the laptop?

Galiano: Have to get down to formal offer on property -- going thru the process now. Don't entirely know what is required. Would be up for a ride tomorrow barring any obligations on the real estate deal. Shall we confer mañana? W
Hi Real Estate Mogul!

Are you dealing with real estate agent you mentioned before? I assume, from what you have said, that the offer you made was acceptable and that now the paper work/financing, etc., have to be put in order. Any idea when you might actually begin process of moving or is it still too early to tell.

Copied this info from my laptop:

Hope this helps. Fairly old machine. Can't even remember when I bought it at the UBC Bookstore, with Admiral Barnacle's help. Probably in the early 2000's, at a guess. Depending on timing, etc., I could leave some money with you and perhaps you could pick up what is needed, if that is fine with you. I'm happy to do it, of course, but time is running out, as I know you know. If it is only a simple matter of a visit to Best Buy or some such place once I have shopping list then I would pick up hardware and leave laptop with you. Anyway, we can discuss this further when we talk and/or ride.

What with one thing and another I didn't go for a ride until just after 5:00 pm. We are playing musical cars here at the Heartbreak Parkade. Prince Valiant uses our second parking spot, except on Saturday/Sunday, when Chloë needs it. Flamin's' car is in North Van at Nicolina's/Marvinator's until after the wedding but the neighbour who lets her use her second space needs it every Tuesday so he can't leave his car there while in Mexico. This being the case, I loaded my Trek into his car, (quite roomy with both back seats down), and drove to Wall Street. Chloë had left me her garage opener, earlier in day, when she came for her lunch break, and I parked in her space. She will park on street for next few days and will drive here Tuesday night to sleep over as we need to leave very early, (4:00 am!), on Wednesday morning.

I unloaded my bike and then headed out along Powell to Clarke and then made my way, via Prior and Station St to National Ave, a street I'd never ridden on before. Followed it, with a bit of exploratory dipsy doodling, until it took me back to Prior and then along Vernon which took me back to Clarke, on the wide sidewalk, at this point, within a block of Great Northern Way and the dedicated bike path there. From there I decided I'd try for a 50+ km ride as the predicted rain never materialized. In fact, late afternoon/early evening was simply gorgeous as I set off, riding much the same route we took when we went to Stormin's' sample sale.

Once back at Olympic Village I took the Seawall to just before the Granville Bridge and then retraced my steps, making a few loops on W 1st and environs, to head for Kits Point. More loopage here until I had 41 km on the clock and then I took a quick run to Macdonald and Point Grey as I wanted to see how the resurfacing work had come along since last there with you on Friday. Pleased to say that most of it has been completed, as you might already know. Lane lines still need painting and separate bike lane still needs some work, by the look of things, but otherwise, not the bottleneck it has been for last few days.

Rode down Point Grey, as far as the parking lot at the end, near Jericho, and looks like this portion of the street will be a candidate for resurfacing shortly, as most o the preparatory work seems to be finished. From there I turned around and headed for home, delighted that I'd been able to leave the Ryan's car at Chloë's place, (One less errand to accomplish before Tuesday and I have scads.), and squeeze in such a rewarding ride to boot. Stats for ride:

Back home to give the Trek a good scrubbing. Lot easier now that the outside water has been turned on. Garden hose nozzle is quite effective in taking off much of dirt and grime in pre-rinse. I then use a spray bottle to de-grease. Let detergent sit for about five minutes before another thorough rinsing. Follow this with a wipe-down and then oil chain. Should be in tip top shape for tomorrow's ride. We will "confer mañana" as you say. In fact, it will be "today" as I notice it is already close to 1:00 am! My main objective tomorrow will be to make sure Cora Lee's and Chloë's tax returns are ready to be filed, (Want Coriandre to sit with me to double check all the entries as I've already entered all the data.), sometime on Tuesday. Other than that, add to the items I've already put in my suitcase as I really need to have most of packing done by tomorrow evening.

As things have turned out, friend, Zircon, aka Jim Hillson, from Medicine Hat, will be coming for dinner on Tuesday evening. He will be driving in from Revelstoke that morning and it is the only time we can connect as he will be gone by the time we are back from Mexico. Another wrinkle in pre-departure planning involves Pam's husband, Greg, (They live in Winnipeg.), who will be coming to Vancouver on business from May 4th until the 8th. Not a big deal as he is lots of fun BUT he was going to stay at The Annexe. Durstons have given him their keys to the place so that is not the problem. Elly and Tony, friends from Brisbane, arrive on the 6th and we had arranged for them to stay there so now Greg will have to sleep on the blow-up mattress in Coriandre's Study! As well he wanted to park his rental car in one of our spots so Coramandel said he could use hers instead, as no (parking) room at The Islay Inn. He'll need mine on May 8th, until he leaves, as Chloë will need her mom's vehicle to get to work. Musical internal combustion engines and bedrooms at The Seldom Inn!
Cheers, Patrizzio!

Greetings, Took the liberty of booking 2 of the nicest specialty restaurants for the 5 of us, ie you 2 and Chloe and us. Otherwise, by the time you arrive, you would not be able to get them. Can always revert to the buffet if you prefer.

Clan just arrived, off to the "meeting pool" for cervezas now...See you in a few days! Gregg & Francesca

Hi Friends,

Who could have thought it possible! My wonderful wife Colleen born July 16 1964 will be celebrating a very significant birthday this July 16th and we would love to have you there to celebrate with us in the beautiful Sunshine Valley on Saturday July 12th. For those of you who have not been there it is located about 10 minutes east of Hope on highway 3 and about an hour and forty minutes drive from Vancouver. This promises to be a very fun and memorable event!!!.

Although we do have a cabin, given the amount of people that will need accommodation we have rented the Sunshine Inn, a facility that was a boy scout lodge at one point and which has 6 bedrooms and can sleep 35 people, has a kitchen and dining room and a couple of washrooms with showers. There is also plenty of room for people to tent and or bring RV.s to park on the property. Alternatively there is the Holiday Trails RV / Campground within a 2 minute walk which rents sites with full hook-ups for RV’s as well as some very nicely equipped one and two bedroom... cabins and pools / hot tubs and other amenities (see link below.)

http://www.holidaytrailsresorts.com/sunshine-valley-rv-campground/

The party itself will be held in the Sunshine Valley Community Center Hall...if you have been up already you will know that everything in the Valley is within a 5 minute walking radius.

We plan to BBQ hamburgers, chicken burgers, veggie burgers as well as serve” Colleens Famous Pulled Pork”...please indicate which you would prefer and how many so we can plan accordingly. We ask that our guests please each bring a salad or appetizer to share so that we can enjoy a potluck style dinner. Regulations in the hall prohibit us from “ serving “ alcohol to our guests but there will be plenty on hand for you to imbibe in and in addition you are welcome to bring whatever you prefer...there will be lots of ice and coolers available to keep beverages cold.

Breakfast will be provided on Sunday morning at the INN....Bloody Mary's and Mimosas to chase away the night before will be served as well lol....plan to come and LET LOOSE that is the beauty of having people staying overnight and no one needs to worry about driving home so we hope that you are able to arrange to stay the night. Although The party itself will probably not be the best environment for young kids...we are happy to help you try to organize a babysitter on site for anyone unable to make other childcare arrangements.

Rooms in the INN are first come first serve....please reserve yours as soon as possible!!!!! Many of the rooms have multiple bunks etc....so plan to organize with other friends who don’t snore too loudly so we can fit in as many as possible. haha. All bedding and towels will need to supplied by you....the INN itself, while rustic, will be cleaned that day before your arrival!!! Check in is
anytime after 2....festivities will start at 4 but come on up early to enjoy all the wonderful activities, the pool and hot tub and beautiful nature trails. DOGS WELCOME!!!!... but your responsibility to keep them LEASHED and safe.

Please feel free to contact us with any thoughts questions or concerns...Hope you can come! it’s going to be a lot of fun! please R.S.V.P. via replying to this email
