Trying to get hold of George to see if he wants to pedal this morning. At least it's dry. Excellent book - Red Sparrow by Jason Matthews. Ray
Sorry to hear about Sylvia's cold. Obvoiusly not enough rum in the Christmas cake! Thanks for tip on book. Hope you and Giorgio can ride but he may not want to do so as I believe he is in the Pacific Coast and local draw probably starts today. One of the reasons he mentioned for not being able to come over to Madroña Manor. Too, too bad as I think both of you would really enjoy the rides around here. Went for my longest yet, yesterday. Didn't go to Fanny Bay as I'd originally planned. Decided to explore the area around the Englishman River Falls and am glad that I did as there is a great complex of roads, with little traffic, there that allows for some good distance and some decent but not exhausting hills, particularly getting to Errington from Parksville. Stats for ride:

We are off to Courtenay, shortly, to have lunch with Clara's twin cousins. Might try to give Norm Cardinal a call when there. Corinne is chatting with Ayn, as I scribe. Pierre has to have all his wisdom teeth out tomorrow! He'll be sipping soup through a straw for a bit! Cheers, Patrizzio!
Pics: Shrimp boat a few nights ago, lights marking net; Rough life at Madroña Manor; I thought this should be the official T-shirt for the Peloton! Greetings from Nassau!
Another great day-beach volleyball and basketball to reverse the all inclusive food and beverages! A question for Chloe:
Can she still book the room that we had for Cora Lee and Flamin's parties? If so, would try to get it for Saturday, Nov 22nd for a Twits/ 60th party. Can you relay the request? Trust the weather is still good for your rides! Will email flight info later. Next to us is "Curly's Tropical Daiquari and Internet Bar". Cheers, Grog
Ok, We are on AC 8259 from Vancouver to Nanaimo next Monday, Jan 27th.
See you then-check AC ahead for status! Cheers again, Grog
Rockford Wines Pre-Offer - The Return of the Barossa Cult Wine
Hi, We went there together, I believe. What do you think? Grog
Hi Grogg!
Yes, we went to Rockford, after Charles Melton and Turkey Flats, if I remember correctly. I like all their offerings, particularly the Basket Press Shiraz.
We had a lovely day in Courtenay, first having lunch, at Plates, with Clarisse's twin cousins, Bev and Barbara. Bev is married to Bob Guenther and they had a large turkey farm. Now run by the two sons. The daughter operates her own turkey farm. Barbara and Chuck Page invited Clara and Dusty back to their place after lunch as B/B had to go back to the farm to feed horses and pigs. (Chuck is a Winnipegger as well and he attended both Isaac Brock Elementary and Daniel McIntyre High, as did I. He grew up about three blocks from where we lived when I was going to those two schools !) Cora Lee and I then drove to Comox to pop in and say hello to Norm and Janet. Only an hour or so but great catch-up. Funnily enough they are out tonight to a Barney Bentall concert at the crown Isle Resort, part of the Winterbites Festival, I gather,, with Mary and The Rustler. Norm will be in Vancouver for a trade show at the end of January so we plan to get together then.
Picked up Clara and Dusty and then drove back on the Island Highway S as I wanted to see how it connects to Courtenay. When we house/cat sat for you the first time, I rode as far as Royston but never got as far as Courtenay. Now I know that I could probably make it to Janet's/Norm's place and it would be close to 91 km. Next time!
Cimcky was happy to see us when we walked in the door about 5:30 pm. After his dinner he poked Cora Lee. The water in the glass in the living room was too low for him so once I changed glass he had a long drink and is now curled up on cushion on couch, snoozing in the warmth of the fire. Porcupine meatballs for dinner with fried zucchini. I'm charged with making a salad once I've sent this message!
With respect to GI Brewery, unfortunately policy has changed, (with Molson's ownership), and employees are no longer entitled to a rental, free or at a reduced rate. If you still want to rent the Tap Room I guess you have enough time. I think you can request a quotation online:

On Monday, I'll check the flight status well before I leave for the airport. Are you staying overnight in Vancouver on Sunday night? Must away as The Sisterhood is starting to get very, very crabby! Cheers, Patrizzio!
Thank you so much for the birthday wishes! I had to laugh at the
card - the teddybear avalanching down the hill was in fact a perfect
representation of how I spent my 28th birthday (the first winter we were
here). I only made it down the hill once, and
not even on skis the whole time... it was unforgettable. When I was
watching the card animation I was wondering "how did you know!?"
I'm sorry we dropped off the map after Christmas. We've been around Vancouver this whole time but to be honest a little hard-worked; no excuse I know. Anyway, thank you so much for having us over at Christmas time, and for sending the photos! We loved seeing you and Clara and Dusty and Wayne, and are glad to know you are all well. From the sounds of your latest exploits, you are enjoying the best of life, as usual.
I wanted to report that our book club talk when we saw you has
spurred me into action! We are finally reading the Unlikely Pilgrimage
(on your recommendation, among others) for our February meeting, and I
am hoping it will be relief from the unrelenting
melancholy of Alice Munro (January's pick)... never again!!
We are off to London in two weeks for a short break; may we have your address? We'd like to sent a postcard :) Love from Zoe and Matthew
Hello Birthday Girl! Glad you enjoyed the card. I found out it was your birthday from your Dad but the choice was simply arbitrary, although I thought that a snow/ski theme might be appropriate for an Australian!
Please don't apologize for not being in touch. Everyone is very busy. I'm sure you are looking forward to your trip to England. Coriandre and her Mom may well go into Nanaimo to do some shopping tomorrow. Dusty is content to stay here and sketch/paint. I hope to go for another ride. We are back to Vancouver on Monday. Hope we will be able to connect when you are back from England to catch up and hear all about your visit/travels. Bon Voyage! Cheers, Patrizzio!

P, had a nice ride with Ray today around UBC in the sunshine from forecasted cloud cover all day. Winds like Iona were present just as a reminder... Nice call by Ray who dragged out the one armed bandit.
We tested the new Point Grey Road bike route and are pleased but puzzled as to how it is supposed to work. Ray is going to demand new black top on PG road and to have his own block turned into a bike only road. Our only run in with the Lexus polizei was a four door Porsche that past us at UBC by the residences going pretty fast and giving us almost no margin on an empty road.
Hope you got out on this glorious day. Our first match is Thursday against Bombast and Steve Crowe. W
Hello Point Grey Roadsters!
I'll be quite curious to see PGR for myself as I have always wondered how it was going to work as a bike route. The same Porsche buzzed me on Grafton Avenue yesterday so I imagine it was traveling at well above warp speed in order to launch itself over the Salish Sea to make the Mainland and roar past the only active members of the ailing Peloton! Say hello to Bombastic and Scarfaccio! Pleased to hear that they are still pretending to be able to play!!! Wear earplugs and you'll be able to trounce them!

We played bridge after dinner and cards were not particularly
good for anyone. Still some interesting contracts even if most holders
went down. I hope to go
for another longish ride, this time to Fanny Bay, perhaps Royston if wind hasn't exhausted me by then. Cheers, Patrizzio!

P, Thought you might like to see. W
Hey George,
Hey George,
Sorry to be so slow getting back to you. Thanks for your kind thoughts. I too felt we did a good job of the celebration. Since then I've been immersed in the whirlwind that comes with being an executor and heir. My sisters headed home on Sunday, but the administrative details continue in force, and I will be back and forth to NicoWynd often for the foreseeable future. That said, it would be good to get together for a ride and a tipple or two.
I've attached the text of the eulogy as I wrote it, although I strayed a little in the delivery. Choosing pics was a random thing - hope they aren't too big, 8^)
cheers, Mark
Hi Giorgio! Thanks for sending along Mark's message but I didn't receive any pictures or the eulogy. Would very much like to have these materials if possible. Thanks, Patrizzio!
