I'm
so happy and proud we won GOLD, but it was lovely to sleep through it
and wake up to all the happy!!!! *cant get this girl outta bed😊
- Rhona Law I forgot to set my alarm! Yay!!
- Chloe Alexis Dunn Good lass!!!
- Patrick James Dunn I'm "All the Happy" too! I was up before Ms Wind Tunnel and found out about the 3/0 victory but told her that Swedes won when she finally surfaced! She took the loss very well, saying at least Canada won Silver! She wanted to bop me when she heard correct score!!!With four Canadians (one of them with both canadian and US citizenship) refereeing the game I don't think it matters how much I cheer. Actually, this confirms my impression that hockey has turned into something else than a sport, i.e. sheer business. And the business interests are incomparably greater in Canada than in Sweden, where hockey nowadays is a pretty small sport.
I haven't watched any figure skating. Is Sarge's son there? The men's curling was a disaster for Sweden, being beaten in the sem-finals by the Scots, but then again we have 300 registered players, as opposed to 300 000 in Canada. Silver medals for the women was OK, I suppose. But the big Swedish success has been the cross-country skiing. 11 medals, better than ever before. And very unexpected. I haven't heard anything about March 15th. Only a couple of days now. KjellCongratulations! You were the better team. Pretty boring game. I fell asleep at the end of the second period.
Two centre forwards (Sedin and Zetterberg) injured and out of the tournament from the beginning, and one (Bäckström) taken off the ice just before the start of this game because of an allergy medicine he's taken for eight years was obviously more than we could take. KjellChloe Alexis Dunn shared a Page: 5 Days for the Homeless - UBC Vancouver.- Patrick James Dunn Congratulations UBC students!
Just for the record, the car is fancy and has been very well cared for ...but it is a 10 year old vehicle and it was a good deal. I test drove a similar new mini suv at my Nissan dealer but with my shorter commute I just don't need a brand new car. I drove many and this one just felt right all all round. I also feel safer on the road sitting higher up in this vehicle. Hope the bridge game went well...cheers! Ayn XoxoHi FCP!
Perhaps you should drive to Vancouver! With the BMW you can travel at the speed of sound! Once here, we would spend all day washing and polishing exterior, vacuuming interior so that clouds of gold dust wouldn't billow from the real leather seats and walnut dashboard!!!
Your Grandmother and I took the last slow rubber, (One quick rubber each beforehand.), to win the night, overall. Poor Nana, however, had to deal with Crusty and Rosie telling her what she did wrong. I told her I still loved her even if she was an "Apple"! Her Mother called her that, years ago in Puerto Vallarta and she ran from the table, crying, saying she didn't think she had come on holiday to go to Bridge Boot Camp!
Will need to chat over next little while to figure out Duty Free hootch. (Duty Free Americas in Blaine, truck crossing, is open 24 hours.) I think best thing is for you to buy a bottle at the border as I don't think you will be able to get anything at airport. However, I may be wrong on that. At any rate, I guess you won't even need me to send money as I believe your car seats are stuffed with $100 bills so that it is almost like sitting on a throne, gazing out over all the serfs on the freeways! Love and Cheers, from a developing country in desperate need of US aid! Car looks great! Good move, Love Mom
Hi Kjell!
Thanks for victory congratulations. Game was on at around 4:00 am here so I didn't get up to watch live broadcast. However, some friends did. Chloë just walked in, en route to GIB, and she said her friends, Krissy and Mark, had 15 people over, having a huge breakfast and drinking beer, to watch game!
Sarge's two sons stopped competing about four or five years ago but still judge quite a bit, due to their technical expertise. Corey, the youngest, is in much demand and RCMP give him the latitude to attend major competitions.
Subjected myself to quite an experience yesterday. Have never ridden in a snowstorm before! Although flakes were coming down steadily snow didn't stick on road so I felt comfortable about surface conditions. However, couldn't believe how cold my hands became. Rest of my body was fine but my hands were absolutely and unequivocally turning into unfeeling blocks of increasingly painful ice. Quite an experience and I have much more sympathy for those climbers on Everest or Antarctic explorers, desperately incapacitated by the cold. My finger tips are still tingling this morning!!! Still snowing, (not sticking), but I'm not sure if I'll have the courage to face another deep-freeze. Cheers, Ice-Blockhead Patrizzio!
Hello Rain Soaked People!
Glad all went well with flight home Trev but sorry to learn of damage to ceiling. I trust no bottles were broken as that would have been a real tragedy! Cheers, Patrizzio!
PS: My latest blog is Madroña Manor Dalmatian Blues, so named for Il Palazzo di Millionaires and dogs belonging to friends, Jean/John. They visited, up from Victoria, one weekend.
Pics: Synchronized figure skating, (Sarge asked us to help out and I volunteered on Thursday and Friday, while Cora Lee did a shift on Saturday.), and snow again this morning!
Hello Embattled Cornwall!
Trust weather has improved. Funnily enough, it is snowing here, in sympathy with Winter Olympics, I suppose! Cheers, Patrizzio!
Hello Embattled Britain! Trust terrible weather has abated.Cheers, Patrizzio!
Poor you. But I must say I don't have a lot of sympathy for you!! I will wait until I feel the warmth of the Spring sunshine before I venture out!
Yes we were, of course, cheering Canada on and delighted that we again are Olympic Champions. I was also delighted that the USA were beaten solidly by in both the women's and the men's games! Krissy and Mark are devils for punishment aren't they? Krissy was making blueberry pancakes and bacon for the 15 over at theirs to watch the hockey at 4 am! Have attached. Picture of the drunken lot!
The storms here have finally abated and we are now assessing the damage to the coastline. At least the sun is out and we have managed some lovely coastal walks. We have also be astonished at the amount of plastic and rubbish that have washed up on some of beautiful beaches. When you see the sheer volume of plastics coming ashore it makes you wonder if the human race are slowly but surely destroying this planet! Attached a picture of Gayle on Perranporth beach helping to pick up plastic and rubbish. A monumental task.
We are off to Rock on Thursday for the 'spa day' and evening at Nathan Outlaws restaurant. Really looking forward to it. Hope the weather is kind the the following day so that we can enjoy a long walk to work off the calories!
I booked our flight to Vancouver today. Arriving on Sept 10th and will leave again on October 2nd. Hopefully you will be back in Vancouver by then so we can get together at some point.
Managed to get out into the garden today to start cleaning up. Already the Spring flowers have started to bloom and I noticed that a Blue Tit is flying in and out of one of the nesting boxes I put up during the winter. Always a good sign!
Marnie and Ant signed contracts on their new house this week so we will be going up to Southampton for a few days to help them move. We have also arranged to look after Tristan for a week to allow Marnie to work on her thesis for her PhD. I think we are going to have to go up their for a few days each month to look after Tris to allow her some time to work on her Doctorate since she is struggling trying to juggle work, Tris and study. No hardship for us since he is such a joy and so easy to look after.
We had our new bed delivered recently. After sleeping in your monster we decided to get a new larger model! It is slightly easier to get into than yours and I don't need to wear my cycle helmet as I did in your bed for fear of falling off!
I just heard Gayle popping a cork in the kitchen so dinner must be imminent! Good to hear from you. Gayle just popped her head around the corner to enquire what I was doing! She sends her regards to you both.
Cheers, Derek
Hello league of unextraordinary gentlemen,
I have talked to my uncle and he (foolishly) agreed to allow the NRBC scallywags to invade the restaurant for the evening of March 9th. I made a reservation for 8 people, but no problem if we are a couple more, under my name (Victor Liang, not Vittorio as some of you might have been lead to believe) for 7p as per our usual meeting time. My uncle and I will provide for some light appetizers and fresh BC water, anything beyond that will have to be paid for out of your own coffers but my uncle has agreed to provide a special "NRBC discount" on any food ordered.I will happily offer guidance if any questions about the menu, as I used to waiter at the restaurant for numerous years. Having said that, please don't feel obligated to order any food, I warned my uncle that we are a cheap and frugal bunch and he is ok with us just simply using the space for the evening. And for those of you wondering, BYOB is fine, but please be careful if you are driving as drinking and driving is illegal in BC! The #25 bus stops right outside the restaurant for those of you taking transit
Here's the info for the restaurant. It's right at the intersection of Victoria and Kingsway, next to the TD bank, and there is parking at the back, although the parking at the TD bank or on the street (right in front of the restaurant) may be better options and offer better accessibility than the parking in the back which is on the tighter side:
Looking forward to seeing you all then - and with the book read, of courseVL Hi Vittorino et al! Thanks again for doing all this. Should be a blast and with all the fines we will levy should have more than enough to pay for all the wonderful food! Cheers, Patrizzio Princeps Poenam Mulctae!
When I committed I was under the impression that Pat was footing the bill.Hi guys! Thank you so much for preparing the soiree Vittorio; so nice of you –and your uncle–. I'll be there, my budget is too tight to afford more fines, however I won't be able to show up before 20:15 as I might be doing the afternoon shift at Granville Island. Looking forward to see you! jon P.S.: In my weekly chronicle on the basque radio I'd talk about The Canadian national men hockey team and its triumphant performance in Sochi and how the Vancouverites experienced it. Simple curiosity, did you wake up to watch the game live? Was the semifinal victory a big thing to you?
Hi Basque Radio Talk Show Host et al!
From my perspective, I think I enjoyed the Women's overall performance as much, or more, than the Men's. While I didn't wake up to watch the the match live today, I know quite a few friends who did. (See attached snap.) Of course I was delighted that the Canucks defeated the Yanks in the semis but the fact that the Women defeated the US twice is rather impressive, I think. Cheers, Patrizzio!
Yes, thanks for arranging this Victor. I hope your uncle can bring himself to forgive you. As for the footing of the bill, With all the oppressive fines apparently being collected, if the NRBC exchequer is unable to fund this outing, I for one will be calling for an independent investigation. G
Dear Kurt et al!
I was under the impression that you were being committed and that the Green Lettuce outing was a celebration of the fact that you were finally being restrained in a straitjacket and a padded cell! Tough way, I admit, to kick the nicotine habit but perhaps the only way you could possibly get the monkey off your back! Let us know about visiting hours and we'll arrange to bring some take-out from Green Lettuce! Now that I think about it, not a bad place to read Umbrella either. Cheers, Patrizzio!
Hi Patrick, I guess Dave's going. He's applied for a passport! He's now
looking at places to stay and places to eat. He's interested in the
L'Hermitage(sp?) Hotel....do you know of it? Pat
Hello Ice-Blockhead Patrizzio Yep – watched the game – excellent result! No bottles broken but most were covered in crap from the ceiling as you can imagine – 30 years of dust etc! How do I access the blog? Just waiting on a tradesman to appear – could only give an estimated time of arrival of between 7:00am and noon! Trevor
VRC Reception fro Casper: Sledgehammer, Choocheranian and Principessa!
