Gentlemen, regrettably when I originally said this Sunday works for me, mistakes were made. A date is as easily forgotten as a brother. In reality I will be out of town for the Family Day long weekend. Blame Premier Crispy.
I am disappointed I will miss the discussion, including ER II's African heritage, etc. (According to Schama in Rough Crossings). Perhaps I would have been disqualified from attending in any event, since I read the book this time. Ah we'll, there's always next time. GBR
Another error with me (age related?)... À agreed to be in some event with friends and can't attend. Good, informative book though. Pity will miss the discussion. See you next time Misha (AKM)
Hello everybody, GBR and Misha won't be the only missing members at the opening of the next reunion. I wont be there at 7PM, I'll be carrying through my new job(!), in other words: I'll be selling apples –best apples in town, gentlemen– at Granville Island Public Market. Good news are that I will be done at 7:30 and I will right away run to Patrizzio's dwelling. Cheers, Jon
Sorry gents, this session had slipped my mind - I too have a prior commitment this coming Sunday evening. I bought tickets to a performance back in December when it looked like NRBC would be meeting in January. Next time, eh?
Hi Barn Burner!Sorry to hear about the lost match. I'm sure it had absolutely nothing to do with bridge night! Grand time. However, I realize that next Wednesday is out for me, and you, I'm lead to believe, as well, since we will be attending the Swiss film, The Foster Boy. Quite looking forward to it, actually. I will send out a message to see if either Tuesday or Thursday work for rest. I know Sarge curls on those days so he is probably out. What does your schedule look like?
Thanks for forwarding Rip's message regarding Casper. Again, I'd like to attend any memorial service and assume Rip may know about when and where, at some point. Raymond had some very sad news as well, regarding Arthur Chapman. He'd been to see Stella, at GI, before he came by here, and she told him Arthur is now in a hospice. He has decided not to take his medication or eat so he obviously wants to end things. Aside form anything else, the quality of his life was almost less than minimal. Nevertheless, very hard on Ray as they were quite good friends. I didn't know Arthur nearly as well but a terribly difficult situation for family and friends.
[In 2010, 67% of Aunt Leah's link participants reported the program helped them find housing. In 2011, the number was bumped to 80%. The link program helps foster youth transition to independence at the age of 19 and continues support.]
After Raymond left, I headed out again, this time on my carbon fibre steed! Hadn't been across Lions Gate since my venture to Madroña Manor so after crossing bridge I took Spirit Trail. Waved to Kjell, (He is back in town on February 25th), and Gianna as I passed their place, approximately. All the way to Fell and then back to head into West Van, literally dodging the Smug, Supercilious, often Oblivious Dog Walkers there to make my way along Bellevue as far as Travers and Marine.
Lazy day today although I might go for a maintenance ride. I gather you are doubles bound to Earthwormville. So called Family Day on Monday so a long weekend. I didn't realize it was a long weekend and Chloë said, "Dad, every weekend is a long weekend for you!" Grateful children indeed!
Last night we watched a recorded movie, Killing Them Softly, a mobster flic with Brad Pitt, James Gandolfini, (one of his last films, I suspect.) and Ray Liotta. What a gritty film. Set against backdrop of race between Obama and McCain while Bush tries to staunch US's financial hemorrhaging. Wonderful juxtaposition Wonderful juxtaposition of criminal world with white collar "crime", yet to be revealed, platitudes mouthed by politicians vs harsh economic reality of petty criminals and those marginalized, for whatever reasons. Great start to my "regular" long-weekend!
Think it is time to institute "Higgledy-Piggledy" fines on the NRBC dopes who are so confused about meeting dates that they cannot keep things straight. Obviously not a real priority. Fondestos from Cora Lee o your own private Sisterhood!. Cheers, Il Conduttore!
P, Sorry to hear Robo cannot shake this cough and that his Buddy is on the ropes. Too bad we cannot get Ray to the NRBC. We would have at least one thoughtful attendee who would read...
Should be good for cards -- Tuesday or Thursday as well. Off to Evergreen to try to carry Dennis against Carlos and Kafka-esque. Birthday party here tonight for Amira and her cousin Tofor who is here visiting from Edmonton. Both born on the 12th of February. I want to see Nebraska and the Gandolfini film. I was a big fan of that actor. Safe riding -- bundle up. W
Birthday wishes to Amira and her cousin! Regards to The Menace and Franz! Are you riding to The Earthdome?
Good suggestion about Robo Man. At the very least he's punch out anyone who hasn't read book and/or frighten non-attendee dopes into marking date on their thick skulls! Win/win for NRBC! The group certainly needs a little blood spilling! Sorry Larry! Cheers, Il Exsanguinatore!
Hi Apple Seller Giani! Congrats on new job. We'll simply sip malt until you arrive. Cheers, Il Condutore!
Thanks for fun-filled evening this past Wednesday. I believe Theodorakis offered to host next Wednesday BUT I cannot make this date. Cora Lee and I are attending a fund raiser put on by Aunt Leah's that evening. Everyone is welcome!
Tuesday or Thursday perhaps? I believe Giorgio is busy on Wednesday and Sarge curls Tuesday and is involved with Skate Canada on Thursday. Perhaps this next week is too busy for people. Please let me know what might work. Thanks and Cheers, Patrizzio!
Hello again, Maret!
Thank you for providing us with some of the details leading up to Walter's death. Unfortunately, we are all dealing, or have been dealing, with aging parents. My Mother died a year ago, this past August, just a week or two short of her 99th birthday. Sadly, she was much diminished for the last few years of her life but comfortable, as far as we could tell. Corinne's parents, on the other hand, are doing very well. They have been here since October 31st. Clara celebrated her 89th this past Tuesday and Dusty will turn 90 in May. Corinne and her siblings are planning a large family reunion to celebrate their 69th wedding anniversary in August so we will be in Winnipeg/Falcon towards the end of July. Will return to Vancouver in early September. If you happen to be there over the course of our visit, it would be grand to be able to get together.
Congratulations on your granddaughter and on the upcoming wedding! Hard to believe that we are getting old ourselves!
We returned from house/cat sitting in Parksville on the 27th of January. Were there for about two weeks and Corinne's parents joined us as well. Very,
very foggy for much of the time but we had a lovely fireplace to curl
up in front of. I love the area as it is wonderful for biking.
Cora Lee and Clara find community too small to be of
interest for more than a few days, however.
Please don't apologize for not being in touch. I blink my eyes and realize I haven't corresponded with certain friends for ages. And I thought retirement would mean I'd have nothing but time to do everything! Let us know about your Winnipeg dates and we'll plan accordingly. Fond regards to you both from Cora Lee. Cheers, Patrizzio!
I am writing, on behalf of The African Grey Society, to warn you that you may well be guilty of parrot abuse. If you expect Picasso to do the laundry you must pay union rates! Glad you had a good visit with Janice. How did she handle change in climate?
Has been a pretty frigid week here. Gather same at Sun Peaks although not as much snow as in former years, our friend, Trevor, from Adelaide, reports. He will be staying overnight on the 19th of this month, en route to Oz. 40ºC+ in Adelaide! Fondestos from Cora Lee to you, Wally and your indentured bird slave! Cheers, Patrizzio!
Hi Litigation Man!
Buona Fortuna with CQB this coming week! Wheeeeeeeeeee! Great Christmas snaps. Terrific to see everyone looking so well. Fondestos from Cora Lee to you all. Cheers, Patrizzio!
Hello Sunnier Climes People!
Your place looks terrific. I notice quite few bottles of wine in background! Amador? We really enjoyed Palm Springs when there in 2008. If you have chance to cycle just a bit up into surrounding hills, it is well worth the effort. Fondestos from Cora Lee to you and Polly. Cheers, Patrizzio!
Hello Wintermatians!
Grand you were able to pop in, Jugos Dom Pedro. Only too, too bad that Lurking couldn't have been along as well. Fondestos from Cora Lee to you both. Let us know when you've some thoughts on Inja! Fondestos and Cheers, Patrizzio!
Hello Nurse Maggie!
Sorry to learn of your two daughter's difficult medical situations but I'm sure they are reassured to have you with them. Trust recovery goes as well as can be expected. Don't remember hearing about Phil Bleecks. Fondestos from Cora Lee to you. Cheers, Patrizzio!
Hello Eyob!
As you know, has been a pretty frigid week here so you are wise to head to the hot springs at Harrison! Fondestos from Cora Lee to you and family. Cheers, Patrizzio!
Hello Storm Tossed People!
What incredible pictures! Quite frightening, really. cannot even imagine walking, let alone cycling in winds howling at 70-90 mph! Your spa outing to Rock sounds delightful, as does your trip to Italy. Understand about Krissy wishing to have you close at hand but offer still stands, should things change or you arrive at a compromise! Fondestos from Cora Lee to you both. [At the moment she is "attacking" the cork kitchen floor. On her hands and knees and copious amounts of elbow grease. I think she should try out for a part in Downton! She's made a wonderful maid!] Buona Fortuna with railroad repair work! Cheers, Patrizzio!
Hi Jean and John!
Was simply grand to see you both. However, sorry to hear about Tess's ongoing seizures. Do let us know how things progress. Fondestos from Cora Lee to you and John and The Hounds! Cheers, Patrizzio!
Hello everybody, unfortunately, for everyone else, I will be there on Sunday at 7p. Take care, VL
Hi Vittorio, et al! Not unfortunate, at all. Far from it. See you on Sunday. Cheers, Il Condutore!
Hellooo That is what Pic says now, after listening to Janice for a week.
What I want to know - did Admiral Barnacle, Sarge etc grow into their names or did you name them for their appearance/ nature? The names seem to be toooo fitting. Makes me glad that I am just Brenda Louise!
Picasso welcomes your support. Unfortunately he now thinks the laundry room is his own personal domain and if we want our ankles to be safe we have to close the door on him. Just finished making smoked cheese sage biscuits with Cloud 9 flour from Costco, pea meal bacon and eggs for brunch. Pic saw the eggs and said in a nonchalant manner, " OK, I will have an egg." If Corinne hasn't tried that flour I would recommend it for her wheat-free regimen.
Gold and silver medals just now for Women's Moguls.. Yeh!
Hi Frida (If you want a nickname)!
Wonderful picture! We were watching Olympic coverage as well so delighted about two medals in Women's Moguls! How you gonna kept an African Grey down once he's seen the lights of Gay Paree! Quite a sauce pot, isn't he! Perhaps I'll ask Ricardo to represent his interests regarding laundry room indigenous rights. Think he has a valid land claim. Thanks for tip on Cloud 9. Cora Lee will look out for it.
With respect to nicknames, probably a combo of both appearance/nature/livelihood. The Admiral lives aboard his rum runner and Sarge is actually a Superintendent but I like to keep him in place! Cheers, Patrizzio!
Except I don't do self-portraits nor selfies. Hi Georgia!
My, you are fussy! Artistic temperament no doubt! Cheers, Patrizzio!
OK, you got me, Georgia???Hi Georgia! Georgia O'Keeffe! Cheers, Patrizzio!
P, can we write Robo right into the constitution? No more levies just one threatening look from Ray and the malt cupboard would be burgeoning. W
P, hoping to travel with you to Reel Causes flic? G
P, hoping to travel with you to Reel Causes flic? G
Hi again, Whirlygig!
We can ram through amendment on Sunday and just sit back and wait for malt cupboard to refill itself! Of course, you are welcome to hitch with us next Wednesday. We can work out those details on Sunday as well, but i assume we'll just pop by and pick you up. Think I'll suit up, (in my snowmobile gear!), and head out for a short ride. Cheers, The Iceman Rideth!
Rosita came over just before I left to go riding and Cora lee told her about the two cheeky racoons who were scoping our patio night before. The two masked bandits came right up to patio door and it seemed as if they almost expected us to invite them inside. When I approached the door they retreated to the walkway but the bolder one waited until I opened the sliding door before ducking down the slope to continue their foray. Stats for day's ride:

Didn't leave until about 2:40 pm as I only wanted a "maintenance" run after yesterday's lengthy outing. Made my way out to UBC and ngotiated Point Grey Diversion without any difficulty. Construction is still in progress and on Friday city workers were tearing up asphalt so needed to a creative dipsy-doodle to make it past construction site. Once through bottleneck I followed regular course out Marine to Crown and then back to campus, via Wesbrook Village. Had bundled up as it was quite chilly. Wind was not as strong as yesterday so that was a bonus. Back by 5:30 pm and there was plenty of daylight so days are definitely starting to lengthen. Now if they will just start to warm up!
Showered and changed and then helped Cora Lee with dinner preparations. Dusty and Clara came over around 6:00 pm and we played bridge before dinner. Coriandre and dusty took first quick rubber and then Rosita and I replied with our own quickie. Break for dinner, (Joanne's wonderful tourtière with green peas and a delish broccoli salad), and then we resumed playing. Bit of a standoff with one side putting the other down and then the dustman and Coramandel took a game. Last one of night as Cora lee wanted to watch Midsomer Mysteries. I was happy to read last few pages of Blood so that I would have my NRBC homework done for gathering next day.
