Hello Comrade Kalashnikov!Just a quick note to thank you for wonderful picture of your marvellous painting! Very, very impressed. Only wish you could control the weather patterns as you do your painter's palette! Today's ride was anything but Spring-like! Must away as I need to flush my system with some high test Aquavit and Malt! Cheers, Patrizzio!
Patrick that's impressive...I know that I can't yet control the weather.. Buy I am trying :) Last part of your story was scary ... Hope there were just bits of ice and they are happily melted by now. Vamos M
Hi Misha!
Thanks for your gentle concern. Shards melted away as I used them in my vodka, last of the Водка Keдp you so generously gave to me, after I'd exhausted my entire malt supply. Must away as I need to flush my system with some high test Aquavit and java, an infusion I find is just great for kick-starting the day! Ваше здоровье, Маленький Патрик!
Hi Corinne and Pat, Thanks for last night. Ellie, who is still fast asleep, enjoyed herself too. Wow, what a cake you made, Corinne.
Yoani Sánchez is the Cuban blogger, i mentioned yesterday evening, who is worth a visit: http://generacionyen.wordpress.com
The long email with travel impressions on Sri Lanka, will come later Corinne and Jane. Best Wishes, bob
P, I wont ride this morning. I may be able to get out later in the day but that will depend upon the moving schedule imposed by Cobby -- conveniently yet to be determined.
By the by, when I told Cobby about your repair costs he was not surprised. He said that if they know what they are doing, that is if in fact parts are needing replacement, the high end parts on your bike are quite expensive and add up fast. Without seeing it himself, prior to repair, he could not verify whether or not the replacements were necessary. He said WPC had a good rep in the industry -- for what that is worth.
He also asked about what kind of distance you were putting on the Trek and when we did some calculations of distance, without the Garminator, he confirmed that it was not unlikely that some parts would be worn. W
Dear Wheelman!
We really missed you and your lanky frame on way back from Iona! Met Robo Man on your doorstep and proceeded along Spanish Harlem past campus to approach Arthur Laing from Marina Side! Robo Cop had a trying time over bridge as first he had to wait to pass one of the Breakfast Clubbers, mid-span, loaded with bulging garbage bags, clinking merrily, and then traffic was heavy enough that he had to wait at both cross points. (Current construction has regular bike path, at bottom of AL, is still closed so we needed to take bridge at Templeton/Grant McConachie.) Even brandishing his cudgel didn't stop BMW Agressoids from whizzing on by!
Anyway, ride out to Iona, once we regrouped, was fab, wind at our backs. Return wasn't all that bad and we didn't draft, although it was pretty strong on the stretches just before and after turn-off. Both of us sighed sighs of relief once in the shelter of CSTB, crossing back into Vancouver. I made light at Marine but Raymondo didn't so I had to circle at 70th, endlessly, waiting for the laggard Domestique! Waved goodbye at Pine and continued on out to UBC.
We'd had some spitting rain along Marine but nothing, really, after that. However, once I was close to campus, Iight rain started falling and by the time I 'd dispy-doodled enough to give me 71 km at the bottom of the Foreshore Hill, it was raining reasonably steadily. My core was toasty, as I'd a vest underneath, but my hands were pretty cold and my feet were blocks of wet ice but I didn't care about those extremities as I was determined to hit 100+ km on my Gold Plated Trek!
Had to fight the ferocious wind all the way from UBC to Science World but zipped along, Ice Man, that I was once I was heading for Stanley Park. Just a quick turnaround at parking lot and girded my loins for return into icy blasts. Soldiered away on way back. Only consolation was that Seawall was pretty deserted, all the other "smart" people were inside, sipping malt in front of their fireplaces! Nevertheless, bit of relief once I rounded Science World and pulled into Ice Block Terrace just before 3:00 pm. So chilled were my digits that I couldn't open my first malt once I was inside so I used Robo Man's cudgel to smash of the top. My lips and throat were so cold that I didn't feel any of the glass shards that had embedded themselves in my esophagus. After a few belts of cask strength I used some tweezers to extract them and proceeded to walk on them, mimicking life with The Sisterhood! Stats for ride:

Must away as Sarge and Prince Valiant are here for dinner. Dusty just brought in a huge casserole of Clarisse's famous, sustainable honey chicken! Rosita brought the bottle "Santa" gave her for Christmas, an anaemic Mollydooker, 2012 Shiraz, McLaren Vale, 16%! Talk soon after I've flushed my system with some high test Aquavit and Malt! Cheers, The Hole in the Wall Gang!
Dear Corinne,
Hope all is well with you and the family. Am still rushing back and forth between London, Dublin (for work) and Chabeuil. Andre had another procedure here in France on 28th February and seems to be on the mend. Still drinking far too much in my opinion but he certainly will not listen to me. He returns to Vancouver on 14th May for his school reunion and I have decided not to come over.
Too much time being spent talking about the "good old times" over umpteen beers and wines for me, as an outsider, to cope with. Now plan to come over in the autumn. Seem to remember you have no long trips away this year since you are saving up for India next. Await news regarding whether Patrick will be paying us a visit to collect his bicycle, which is still safely strung up in the garage, this coming summer.
Off to London tomorrow and just realised that I am on the last book of your recommendations last October so it would be great if you have any more to suggest after the last six months of your reading. Much appreciated. Look forward to seeing you in October and catching up with all your news. Much love, Rosemary XXX
