Manducate:
MEANING:
verb tr.: To chew or eat.
ETYMOLOGY:
From Latin mandere (to chew). Ultimately
from the Indo-European root menth- (to chew), which also gave us
masticate, mandible, and manger. Earliest documented use: 1623.
Hi Kjell!
The first dates that I can "probably" make are either the 10th/11th/12th/13th, next week, to see The Great Flood. I wouldn't mind going on Monday night as Opening Night is supported by Reel Causes, the group that screened the Swiss film Foster Boy/Der Verdingbub which we saw in conjunction with an Aunt Leah's program. The following week I definitely want to see Nymphomaniac Vol 1 & II, preferably on the same evening, preferably March 23rd through 26th. Let me know what you think. Cheers, Patrizzio!
Hi Bridge Whiz!
Nice scam you pulled with Fast Eddy! Great addition to bridge pool. Hope you can do the soft shoe shuffle, aw shucks, hayseed routine in your new slippers, the better to lure in more unsuspecting opponents! Anyway, great good fun. Peter had a blast. I'm just waiting for him to have a quick shower and then I'll drop him off at Olympic Village SkyTrain Station.
On another matter, are you interested in joing Kjell and I for some films?
With respect to riding, looking at forecast, I'd be up for anything after 8:00 am. I'll give you a shout around that time. Cheers, Doubled and Down but Not Out Patrizzio! Pics: Typical poses!

ride bikes or even walk well.......my balance is not what it used to be..........I must force myself to do some balance exercises. I see Edible is close to a mile away so I may have to take a taxi there or back to your place........we will see. This is our second week end of the Barrel Tasting event so it is fun to be with Pat's sister and brother in law, Sharon and Rick. We always have great fun in the evening. Tonight I am preparing Boudin and other assorted
sausages......tomorrow night we are preparing my famous chicken and
roast potatoes and Sunday homemade sour dough pizza on the BBQ. I love
cooking. I just talked to my accountant Dennis Gary and he says he has a boat docked near you on Granville Island. He is going to give me some ideas about what to do, just like you.........enjoy............Dave

just an email to let everyone know that we will be meeting at the GL on Sunday at 7p. Just in case any of you get there before me, the reservation is under "Victor". Looking forward to seeing how many people will be contributing 5 dollars to the NRBC non-completion penalty pot for this book. We should have a special rule about hosts of the meeting of a given book being excluded from the penalty Take care, VL
Hi Victor and all, I was about to write you using FCB but here it goes. In regards of the penalty I would be one of the payers, for sure. And said that, I don't see why host would be treated with any kind of priviledge.
I wish I could but I wouldn't show up at least until 08p as I am working until 7:30 at Granville. Would you make me the favour of keeping a sit free?
Yesterday, thanks to the generosity of Guy I enjoyed a beautiful dance show: Tempest Replica by Kidd PIvott . Today I'm going to enjoy Don Giovanni, so you can ask me about any of this events rather than requiring my opinion about Umbrella. So sorry. See yoo on Sunday Jon
Hi Patrick and Corinne
I am very heartbroken to have to say that my Michael passed away last week. It is something that Shanna and I have been preparing ourselves for a number of years now but in the end it still is a heavy loss.
Michael had been sent to hosp on the 20th of december with breathing problems and on the 22nd the doctors called for permission to perform exploratory abdominal surgery fearing that he had a blocked bowel and that his condition was grave. I was not shocked at getting a call from the hospital(as this was an all too familiar scenario) but the way I was notified. As you know Michael has been living in a harm reduction shelter house for alcoholics for almost 4 years now and on the 20th his friend observed him go off to hosp by ambulance and not return that night nor the next morning. He took it upon himself the next day in very bad weather to go and try to find him. Michael was admitted to a nearby hospital but was transferred to another. His friend the next day walked on to the ICU ward just as the doctors were evaluating Michaels condition. It was this friend who supplied my phone # to them.
I don't know if your health care system is any better than ours but this is the 2nd time I have encountered the way I find out that he is in hosp. The hospital says it is not their responsibility to inform me of an admittance but rather the duty of the shelter house and of course the shelter puts the blame on the hospital. You get very little information from the nurse on duty. Occasionally you might get lucky and get an older nurse who is willing to divulge some pertinent information but for the most part you learn very little. Last year I was forced to hopping a bus immediately simply because I was told he was resting comfortably! Even calling the hospital is an experience itself. The other week I let the phone ring 15 times after 9pm only to hang up in frustration. I knew that who ever would answer would tell me to call back because there is no one available.
Another common situation is the nurse isn't at her desk call back etc etc. or you accidently get cut off as you are being transferred. Sometime when the patient is stable all you want for assurance is their vitals and they wont even give that to you. One day when I was at the hosp arrangements were made to see the dr the next day at a certain time. He didn't show, there was nothing written in Michaels charts, and I didn't think to ask the name of the dr or have the name of the nurse who supposedly arranged this. Navigating this system is a nightmare if you are out of town.
On Dec 22nd most of eastern ontario was facing an ice storm and the doctors were telling me just how bad Toronto was. They had hospitals on generators and everything came to a standstill. Having experienced an ice storm here some 15 years ago I knew it was futile to even think of going to toronto. Consequently Shanna and I did not get to Toronto till the 26th and there were no hotels roomsto be had. The 401 was disastrous with cars abandoned on the side of the road etc. Michael was in a coma for a week with multiple organ failure. But again he survived.
I have been travelling every week to visit with him and slowly he made some progress. His 6" exploratory abdominal incision was a concern for infection as it was not healing because the ascites was choosing to drain thru this incision. The day before my scheduled visit I was called to say he was being sent to the ICU for breathing problems. I arrived the next day and was told he had pneumonia. the day after I made arrangements to have him admitted to palliative care. Even before the paper work was complete he succumbed to respiratory failure. I am so thankful that I was there with him for 2 days. He was semi unconscious but I know he heard every word I said because I had to blot his tears from the corners of his eyes that afternoon. It was a very moving experience for me. Even the dr noticed and commented.
Shanna and Cory were in Costa Rica at the time totally unaware of his condition. My biggest concern in telling my closest friends was that their kids had to keep Michael's death a secret until Shanna came home on sunday. I feared that she would find out on face book. Boy did I call that right. Once I told them sunday morning and within a few hours face book went wild. Poor Shanna could not keep up with the posts. It is so over whelming to see the lovely comments. If only Michael could have known just how highly he was thought of.
Michael's wishes from some time ago was to have a celebration of life in toronto so his friends could attend and he wanted me to have one here in Kingston so that my friends could attend. He lamented over the years if only he could have been just as popular as his dad.
He remembers (at the age of 6) that the line up at his dad's funeral was out the door. Little does he know his Celebration of Life on the 22nd will be just the same by all indications. I am holding the toronto celebration on April 4 as he has a few friends at the shelter house in wheel chairs, walkers and most of them are a good 20 years older and in failing health so weather is a factor. I am very fortunate to have friends in both these cities to help with the arrangements.
Shanna's city home as now rented as of April 1st so we have been busy the past few days emptying cupboards etc. Most of their furniture has already been moved but we have been rather lax over the past few weeks in packing up so the push is on now. Hugs, Simone
Dearest Simone:
Heartfelt sympathy to you and Shanna and family on the death of your son. As you describe events, you certainly had an extremely difficult time of things without even taking into account Michael's rapidly deteriorating condition. How much harder this must have made things for you, I cannot even begin to imagine. Corinne sends her love and sympathy and know that we are both thinking of you as you grieve for your son. Again, sincere condolences, Patrick.

Hi Guys,
Would love to join but working today. So far next week is good so hopefully the weather cooperates. Here's something interesting. .apparently I've had a broken wrist for the last 2 months, my doctor confirmed on an xray yesterday and wants me to get a cast asap. I said only if I can still ride ! I'll let you know how it progresses. Cheers, Al
Sorry to miss the ride, gents I'm in Bellingham tis morning.
Hi Broken Wrist Masochist and Bellingham Boy!
Sorry to hear about your wrist, Big Al. How did you injure it in the first instance? Missed you both on this morning's ride. Quite pleasant, in terms of weather, other than fairly stiff head wind at times. We met at the Heartbreak Terrace and then proceeded to Stanley Park. On approach to Propsect Point hill I asked if anyone was interested in going over the Lions Gate.
Raymondo had worked out on the treadmill at the gym day before and mentioned that his hips were a tad sore so he vacillated about whether to hit bridge or not. He said to go on without him but it wasn't really a big deal, as far as I was concerned, either way, so I assumed we'd just continue back to Seawall.
However, once we reached the top of the hill, Robo Man took turnoff to causeway and we were headed to North Van! Over bridge we followed Spirit Trail to Welch Street and then retraced our steps all the way back to Granville Island. Though we might be in for a bit of a soaking as we left Stanley Park as encountered some light rain/drizzle. Turned into more of a mist shortly thereafter and then, somehow magically, disappeared altogether. I accompanied lads to Point Grey Road and Cornwall Ave and then made my way back to Kits Point for a few dipsy-doodles there to give me the distance I wanted by ride's end. Stats for ride:

Unfortunately, weather doesn't look all that promising on Saturday but Sunday might be worth looking at. Morning would suit me best but don't forget about Daylight Saving time change! Cheers, Patrizzio!
P, good ride, thanks. I will not ride tomorrow. I may be able to squeeze and early morning ride in Sunday. W
